The importance of Wi-Fi signal
Performance for Wi-Fi-enabled devices like smart phones, tablets and computers can be greatly improved with a strong Wi-Fi signal. You should pay careful attention to the number of bars displayed on your Wi-Fi device according to the guidelines provided below. To improve the Wi-Fi signal please refer to our article on ideal modem location.
1. Excellent (> -50 dBm)
2. Good (-50 to -60 dBm)
3. Fair (-60 to -70 dBm)
4. Weak (< -70 dBm)
- A minimum of -67dBm is the National Standard to provide to a wireless device in order to experience proper product functionality.
- Signals operating with a signal weaker than -67dBm may still work up to -85dBm, but manufacturers cannot guarantee proper functionality with that signal. Slow speeds and network timeouts are common for any device not within specifications.
When placing your Internet modem, consider the impact of these physical barriers that could impact your Wi-Fi signal strength.
